    >> Aselia - The Tales Wiki, The Biggest Info Hub For The Tales of Series

    a745

Have you visited Aselia - The Tales Wiki recently? Because they just got a new revamped layout and a ton of new updates!

I'm sure most of the Tales fandom knows this already, but Aselia - The Tales Wiki is practically the biggest source of Tales info you'll ever find on the internet.

For those who haven't gone through it ever, or for those who haven't checked it in a while, the Wiki got expanded a great deal last 2015. Hundreds of pages have been added and the Wiki's infrastructure has been re-hauled for easier navigation.

One particular new addition to the Wiki is the implementation of enemy arte list pages, cataloging antagonists' artes in the same manner they did before with the protagonist arte list pages. That alone has actually added nearly 300 pages to the Wiki!

Do pass by the Aselia - The Tales Wiki! The current admins, Arosia and Lanate, are doing a really good job of maintaining such a big information encyclopedia for us fans.

    >> New Tales of Berseria Screenshots, Story, Character, World and Battle Details

    a745

New screenshots for Tales of Berseria, along with more in-depth detail on the game's story, characters, battles and world.

A lot of the info here are just stuff we got from the recent Famitsu article, but there are a few tidbits added.

About the theme "Emotions versus Reason"

The main point of the theme is the clash between Velvet, who uses her strong emotions as her drive to push through, and those who have abandoned emotions for reasons, and how she goes through the world.

    Story's Setting

The stage of the story is the world called Wasteland. At the center of it spans a large land mass, which, in the distant future, will be called the continent of Glenwood. (i.e. Tales of Zestiria's Glenwood continent, apparently)

The story will be mainly in the Midgand Kingdom, a kingdom whose rule encompasses the continent and crosses the oceans. There are countless islands and archipelagos divided into "territories."

Despite being in the same kingdom, there are vast differences to be noted between the northern and southern regions of the world, specifically on climate. The climate heavily affects the culture of the area, making a variety of work and livelihood for the people in this world. In the recent years, the weather has been turning a bit more cold, especially at the northern regions that are buried in snow.

The Midgand Kingdom's shipbuilding and sailing technology has allowed it to perform trade in different territories. Since the ocean currents and weather changes frequently, the ships use specific routes for trade, and these are frequently targeted by pirates.

    Prologue

This is the beginning of the legend. And the story of the forgotten "truth" in the distant future.

The Gōmabyō, a disease that transfigures humans into monsters. The world is in an area of chaos.

Velvet, who lives in a remote village within the Midgand Kingdom. Despite their harsh living conditions, she and her family help each other out to survive, spending their everyday lives in warmth.

However, on the Scarlet Night, when the moon shone a bright red, everything changed for Velvet. One she trusted betrayed her, and not only did she lose her blood relatives, a mysterious power has engulfed her left arm, carrying with it the power to transfigure into a demonic form that can devour monsters.

Time flows, and three years later...
With the advent of the "savior," and as the Kingdom tries to return order into this world, a young woman passes through.

Her name is Velvet Crowe. Within her eyes burns the fury of having everything taken away from her, her fury for the "savior."

    Key Story Items and Terms

As stated before, the items compass, comb and apple have some part in the story.

Some key words in the game:
    • 業魔病 (Gōmabyō) - A disease that transfigures humans into monsters. Those afflicted lose themselves and tend to attack other people, though there are some who are able to keep their sense of reason.

    • 業魔 (Gōma) - The term used for a human who has transfigured into a monster because of the Gōmabyō. There have also been reports of animals becoming one.

    • 聖隷 (Seirei) - A race that is able to wield the power of nature. Many of them think not for themselves and are instead enslaved by humans. Laphicet is a Seirei.

    • 緋の夜 (Hi no Yoru, Scarlet Night) - Refers to a night when the moon becomes a brilliant red. It seems to be connected to the Gōmabyō.

Also noted in the magazine are key items that will affect the characters and the story: the compass that Laphicet holds, the comb that Velvet is seen holding in the trailer, and apples.

    Character: Velvet Crowe

    Velvet Crowe
"I will never give up. Whatever happens, I'll devour them."
    Age: 19 years old
    Height: 170cm
    VA: Rina Satō
    Character Design: Mutsumi Inomata
    Weapon: Thorn Blade
    Class: Lancer
Race: Gōma? (listing actually has the question mark)
    - Though once a no-frills friendly girl with great love for her family, she completely changed after an incident 3 years ago. She almost never smiles and instead harbors anger and hatred within her now cold personality. With her original kindness gone, leaving her cold anger burning in its wake, she will soon become a presence that will change this world.
er bandaged left hand has taken on a mysterious power since the day of that incident, and can now transfigure into something inhuman. Her transfigured left hand seems similar to those seen in Gōma and is able to give her inhumane powers, but it seems slightly different from the usual Gōma.

Her transfigured left hand seems similar to those seen in Gōma and is able to give her inhumane powers, but it seems slightly different from the usual Gōma. (Refer to below for an elaboration of what the Gōma are)

    Character: Laphicet

    Laphicet
"But it's hard to suffer alone, isn't it?"
    Age: 10 years old
    Height: 142cm
    VA: Azumi Asakura
    Character Design: Minoru Iwamoto
    Weapon: Paper sheets
    Class: Seirei Caster
    Race: Seirei
    - Ever since birth and even when he hadn't been bestowed a name before, he has been a tool used for his artes. Knowing only a life of following orders from his master, he never carried his own will.

    - When first meeting Velvet, she gets irritated with how he has no feelings or own intentions. However, upon going on a journey with her and learning about many things, he is able to grow his own heart and will, eventually becoming a support for Velvet whose violent rage continues to inhabit her.

    Location, Location, Location

From a town covered in snow to an island of everlasting summer, autumn colors and sunsets, Tales of Berseria will feature more diverse locations to spice up this adventure.

The Evolution of the Linear Motion Battle System

Based on the free run model and the use of the left stick for movement plus using the circle and x buttons for attacking, Berseria will now utilize all four buttons of square, triangle, circle and cross for attacks and artes. The left stick will be more focused on movement alone, and by focusing on the four buttons, it'll be possible to link attacks. The camera viewpoint can be adjusted as you see fit.

As we reported before, Velvet is more of a frontliner with her thorn blade thing and footwork. There's the use of her transfigured left arm, making her a good advance guard character. Her left arm, especially, will be able to exhibit some special power.

Laphicet is more of a back type character who specializes in using Seirei artes that can perform both attacks and restoration. As a melee character, he is also able to use his paper sheets as his main weapon, but he is much better as a support character.

Tales of Berseria is the next mothership title of the Tales of Series which was first announced during Tales of Festival 2015. The game, which will be released for both the PS3 and PS4 on 2016 for Japan, and for the PS4 and PC for the West. The game features a female protagonist named Velvet and a theme of pirates and ships.

    >> New Tales of Berseria Famitsu Scans on Velvet Crowe and Laphicet

    a745

New scans of Tales of Berseria from Famitsu give a few tidbits on main character Velvet Crowe and her companion, Laphicet.

These scans are actually the full scans of our previous post about Berseria taking place in the same world as Tales of Zestiria, but in its far past. For clarity's sake, we'll post all info so far from these scans and that previous post.

Velvet Crowe (name spelling now official)
    Age: 19 years old
    Height: 170cm
    VA: Rina Satō
    Character Design: Mutsumi Inomata
    Weapon: Thorn Blade

    • Tales of Berseria takes place in the world of "Wasteland." In the middle of it is a continent which will eventually be called Glenwood, though Berseria's events take place way before that.

    • As compared to the future (that is Glenwood), the world of Berseria is vastly different. The towns, the nature, and names of places are completely different. There are however bits of the culture and nature in Berseria that may still be seen in Glenwood. As you search the world of Wasteland, you may find bits of history and truth that never made it to the future era.

Also noted in the magazine are key items that will affect the characters and the story: the compass that Laphicet holds, the comb that Velvet is seen holding in the trailer, and apples.

    Other things to note:
    • From one of the screenshots in the scans, it seems you can now change your on-screen or overworld character (i.e. the character you use to explore the world), a feature that was made unavailable in Tales of Zestiria

    • In the kingdom exists a "savior" like existence that intends to bring back order in the world.

    • Like in Tales of Zestiria, Tales of Berseria will also feature seamless transition between field walking and battles.

    • Camera point of view is adjustable as you see fit.

    • All four buttons (square, triangle, circle, cross) will be utilized for moves.

    • Velvet freely alternates between using her thorn blade with some footwork thrown in and the use of her transfigured left arm, making her a good advance guard character. Her left arm, especially, will be able to exhibit some special power.

    • Laphicet is more of a back type character who specializes in using Seirei artes that can perform both attacks and restoration. As a melee character, he is also able to use his paper sheets as his main weapon, but he is much better as a support character.

To those who missed it, Tales of Berseria will have all four character designers from Tales of Zestiria coming back: Mutsumi Inomata, Kosuke Fujishima, Daigo Okumura and Minoru Iwamoto.

Thanks to our friend Momo for helping out with the translations.

    >> Tales of Berseria Confirmed To Take Place In The Same World As Tales of Zestiria, Though In The Past

    a745

Tales of Berseria is set in a world far before Tales of Zestiria's.

Looks like that that little rumor that's been floating around all holds up. The latest issue of Famitsu magazine details a bit on the setting or world where Tales of Berseria takes place, as well as glosses over the fact that the continent of Glenwood, where Tales of Zestiria takes place, is in the same world.

Other tidbits revealed about the game include:
    • Laphicet, being pure, becomes a light to Velvet who has become consumed by her revenge.

    • Like in Tales of Zestiria, Tales of Berseria will be featuring the seamless (almost) transition from walking in the field to entering battles. Main differences include being able to control the camera to adjust your field of vision and to assign artes to the triangle, square, circle and cross buttons.

Below are some keywords about the game:
    • 業魔病 (Gōmabyō) - A disease that transfigures humans into monsters. Those afflicted lose themselves and tend to attack other people, though there are some who are able to keep their sense of reason.

    • 業魔 (Gōma) - The term used for a human who has transfigured into a monster because of the Gōmabyō. There have also been reports of animals becoming one.

    >> Tales of Berseria Coming To The West Only For PS4 and PC, English-Subbed Trailer Released

    a745

Bandai Namco Entertainment has just announced and confirmed the localization for Tales of Berseria for both the Americas and Europe, though exclusively for the PS4 and PC.

Oh, and here's an official English-subbed version of the recent trailer.

The announcement comes straight from a press release from Bamco, indicating that the game will come out for the West, BUT will only be for the PlayStation 4 and PC platforms. It seems that the PS3 version will be staying in Japan, unfortunately. No release year has been given yet.

Tales of Berseria will focus on Velvet, the series' first female main heroine. Hergentle nature has been replaced and overcome with a festering anger and hatred after a traumatic experience three years prior to the events within of the game imbued her left hand with a special ability.

The game will explore the confrontation between Velvet and her strong emotions, and those who forego emotion and stick with reason. The immense power in her left hand is not only key to the storyline but symbolizes her fury! She is designed by Mutsumi Inomata.

Laphicet, a boy who supports Velvet, is designed by Minoru Iwamoto and voiced in Japanese by Azumi Asakura. While Velvet is the embodiment of “Shadow”, this new character is created in the image of “Light”, playing a really important role in the storyline.

Based upon the series Linear Motion Battle System, the battle system in Tales of Berseria has evolved in the following ways:

    • The player’s default control is free run

    • The player can rotate the camera freely

    • The player can assign multiple artes to any of the four buttons: square, x, triangle and circle, allowing different artes to be linked together in attack combinations.

    >> RUMOR: Tales of Berseria Might Be Connected To Tales of Zestiria?

    a745

Or at the very least, related to the Tales of Zestiria the X anime.

This rumor, though not that widespread, has been floating around ever since Tales of Berseria and the Tales of Zestiria the X anime (formerly named Tales of 20th Anniversary Animation) was first announced. Specifically, a particular symbol on the back of that new character shown in the original Tales of Zestiria the X trailer was also seen on a town banner in some screenshots or scans of Tales of Berseria:

Granted, the design is not 100% identical, but the pattern itself is highly similar.

Back then, it wasn't concrete yet if there was a connection between the two, as some defended that the "Tales of 20th Anniversary Animation" might not only be about Zestiria, given its name. Now that it's been now renamed a Tales of Zestiria the X, it seems to be leaning more toward some sort of connection between the two games.

Cue in the new Tales of Berseria trailer. Some things in the trailer have caught fans' eyes. Specifically, the following:

^Going back to that symbol seen in the Berseria screens and the Zestiria X trailer, it appears once again on the cape of the knight that was fighting Velvet.

Speaking of the said knight, some find the two men accompanying him to be similar in design to what we know was some of the Seraphim in Tales of Zestiria, specifically the ones that are in the trials. Actually related? Or just some sort of model recycling?

^Is this someone turning into a hellion?

    ^Or is this a hellion?

The following assumptions made by fans may seem far fetched to some, but they've been raised multiple times so I thought I'd add them in:

^Some are saying Velvet's transforming arm thing may possibly because she's part hellion or has been corrupted by one?

^Or that Lifiset is a seraphim mainly because he seems to wield seraphic artes and that the ends/tips of his hair is a different color (though I think this is better confirmed with art from ufotable). The latest news from Shonen Jump states Lifiset as a "spirit" though. In Berseria's world, spirits are apparently used as slaves. With that said, they're probably entities people can see, so that sort of crosses this out by a tiny bit.

Note that all the points we raised above are just mere rumors for now and is not official news. Is it true? Only time will tell. For now, let's have fun with the speculation embargo.

    >> New Tales of Berseria Shonen Jump Scan Reveals Velvet's Full Name + Lifiset's Character Illustration

    PanbanRichard

The latest Shonen Jump issue reveals Velvet's full name as Velvet Crow (ベルベット・クラウ, berubetto kurau, romanization not official) and character illustration for Lifiset (Special thanks to @kazu4281 for the scan.)

The scan gives us a bit of info on Velvet's background. One night, when the moon was red, a tragedy occurred - Velvet lost her beloved family. Jump 3 years later - one can see in Velvet's eyes that she is still full of rage for the one who stole everything from her.

As for Lifiset, his quote is "After all, isn't it hard to suffer alone?"
It is mentioned that his race is that of a "spirit" ( 聖隷, seirei). In this world, humans apparently use "spirits" as slaves (which might explain the collar-like accessory around his neck). Though Velvet initially scolds him for his lack of initiative, he eventually becomes a source of support for her.

In addition, the compass that Lifiset holds will be a key part of the story. Where it points will help his mind and heart grow.

Many thanks to @Otsukareia for the translations!

    >> Tales of Press Release Recap: Zestiria the Cross TV Anime, CR Tales of Destiny & More!

    PanbanRichard

A summary of the news covered during the Tales of Press Release reported by Famitsu and Dengeki Online. Click here for the Berseria news and here for the Tales of the Rays news revealed during the event.

Note: Current translations are temporary and subject to change.

The Tales of 20th Anniversary TV Anime revealed in June is now known as Tales of Zestiria the Cross, which clarifies the previous trademark. The teaser site's URL was also changed to reflect the new title. Not much else has been revealed as it is still set to air in 2016.

Tales of Asteria will be getting a new chapter known as "Light of the Guidance & the Crystal of Earth". Sorey & Mikleo are featured as main characters in this chapter. It will be released in Spring 2016. The Dengeki Online article has their card art in high-resolution.

Tales of Link's story will be getting an update with Part 4 sometime in Spring 2016. It'll contain fully voiced lines for Zephyr's dialogue in Part 3. Unisons Attacks will also be implemented in the app with pair units, where you will have a higher damage output, inflict or recover from status effects.

There was a new video for CR Tales of Destiny which showed off some of the character songs you can hear in the game. It also showed off new scenes that you can view on the Famitsu report. Said video hasn't been uploaded yet, and there's still no set release date for the machine.

Finally, Tales Festival 2016 will begin on July 9th and 10th, 2016 at the Yokohama Arena. The theme of the event is a "Summer Festival".
