>> About the Game
Tales of Eternia is the third Tales of Series game to be released and is also the second one for the PSX. In its US release, it was renamed as "Tales of Destiny II" to avoid copyright infringement of Mattel's Masters of the Universe. This became a problem though, because later, Japan released the real Tales of Destiny 2, the real sequel to the previous Tales of Destiny. Because of this, ToD2 never made it to the US storesT_T. It was again renamed as Tales of Eternia when it was released for Europe. Also, an online version of Tales of Eternia has been released in Japan, focusing on the world of Eternia, and not the main protagonists of the actual game.
>> StoryLine
ToE tells of the tale of Eternia, a world made up of two other planets binded by the Seyfert Ring namely, Inferia and Celestia. Inferians' Reid Hershel, Farah Oersted, and Keele Zeibel are three childhood friends binded by a bloody past. Reid and Farah currently live in the remote village of Rasheans, while Keele has gone off to study at the prestigious Mintche Academy. Their solitude is disrupted by the arrival of a Celestian names Meredy, bringing news of the Grand Fall, a phenomenon in which Inferia and Celestia would eventually collide, and then explode. Now, Reid, Farah, and Keele are travelling back and forth the two planets in order to save the world of Eternia...
>> Characters
Reid Hershel
>>Reid is a young hunter from the remote village of Rasheans. In the past, he has done something terrible that almost led to the entire annihilation of the people in his village. At the start of the game, his only intentions were to be able to help Meredy and return her to Celestia, but as time passes, his objectives turn for the better.
(SPOILER:He possesses the rare Aurora Arte, and is the only hope in defeating the Dark Aurora that manipulates the Grand Fall.)
Farah Oersted
>>Farah is a young martial arts expert who has been living her life quietly in Rasheans. She too had something to do with Reid's past. Ecstatic about the fact that she can actually save the world, she decides to help Meredy out, without hearing any second opinion whatsoever.
Keele Zeibel
>>Reid and Farah's childhood friend who is currently studying Craymels at the prestigious Mintche Academy. He seems to be the weakest of the trio, but makes up for it with his powerful Craymel spells. He joins Reid and the others to fulfill his academic research.
Meredy
>>Meredy is the Celestian who brought the news about the Grand Fall to Reid and the others. She may sometimes look like a dumb little girl, but she is actually an apprentice Craymel Engineer(or so she says). She, like Keele, has the ability to perform Craymel Artes. She's weak as a melee fighter, but powerful as a caster.
(SPOILER:If Reid possesses the Holy Aurora Arte, then she possesses the Dark Aurora. It can't be used in battle though. )
Ras
>>A young travelling merchant who will help you(or rather, help Farah) in various parts of the game. Reid doesn't really like him that much.
(SPOILER:His real name is Sir Rassius Luine. He's a Senior Knight of Inferia who was actually ordered by the king to stop Reid's party in their plans to stop the Grand Fall. He too, possesses the Aurora Arte. In fact, he sacrifices his life to save Reid and the others by using the Arte at an early stage. )
Chat
>>A young Celestian girl who claims to be a pirate. She is a descendant of Celestia's legendary hero, Aifried the Pirate. She's a great help in the journey, bacause she manipulates most of the party's transportation utilities.
Max
>>Max is the so-called leader of a group that opposes the enemy in Celestia (sorry if it's too vague^^). He's not really much of a leader, but rather, a "leader figure". He doesn't really think much before he acts, and this causes a few problems for the party. He also has this annoying tendency to say, "Yeah!" in a weird and irritating manner.

Being the first Tales game I have ever played, this has become my immediate favorite. For me, the concept and storyline was quite unique(a world made up of two other worlds? thumbs up!). The battle system, like the other previous Tales games, was in real-time. It was a completely different experience compared to Final Fantasy's click and wait system. Another great point of this game would be the sidequests. I would always find myself replaying it just to finish all the sidequests, like the battle arena at Inferia and stuff.

To be completely honest, I couldn't see any flaws in this game. It was completely fun, was given a really long playing time(okay, maybe not. But if you do try to finish all the sidequests, yah), and was one of the most interesting games I've ever played. The only part of the game I considered offending was the fact that it was named as "Tales of Destiny II" in the US. I really was expecting ToD to be a prequel to this one, but was disappointed to find out that the REAL ToD2 was never going to make the shores of US. Although that didn't really matter though. It was a great game altogether.
