The Great Tree Kharlan which supported the world fell apart...
By the will of the heavens, the world split into two...
After such a long time, The Chosen of the Regeneration gave birth to the new World Tree that replaced the Great Tree Kharlan.
All were united and reborn as one.
It was thought to be the opening of a new era...
However...
The united worlds brought about only peril. The world maps are no longer of use because of the new world, and weather disasters are everywhere. It snows in the desert, it's dry in the winter lands. The people of Sylvarant feel oppressed because the people of Tethe'Alla seem to have more power. People are starting to despise the previous heroes and what the have done to the world, so it is inevitable for a revolt to start. Because of this, a Bloody Purge was done in Luin by the Church of Martel, where the town was burned to the ground... And this attack was led by none other than Lloyd Irving himself. It is still unknown however, whether he was willing to do such or not.
The actual storyline starts with Emil Castagnier, who is living in Luin. While in the town, he hears a faint monster's cry. Feeling that the call was directed towards him, he ventures off in search for its source. Then, he meets Marta, who tells him there are people after her, and so they agree to join forces. On Marta's forehead resides the Ratatosk Core, which many people are after.
Later, he finds out that the cry he heard was from Tenebrae. He makes a contract with Tenebrae, making him into a Knight of Ratatosk. Whenever he uses Ratatosk's power during battle, his eyes turn red and his personality changes into something a complete opposite of who he really is. This is all, however, in order to protect Marta.
Who/What is Ratatosk?
Ratatosk is basically the spirit of the previous World Tree, the one before Martel, and the Lording Spirit of all Monsters. It is currently stagnant within the Ratatosk Core, thereby causing the monsters in the world to wreak havoc. The purpose of turning Emil into a Knight of Ratatosk was to make contracts with the wild monsters under Ratatosk's wing, and return them to their tame selves. One of the reasons that the world is in chaos is because Ratatosk is asleep.
