Tales of the Rays Japan Shutting Down its Service this July 2024

Farewell, Tales of the Rays

After 7 years running, even Tales of the Rays says goodbye to its fans this July.

Announced in-game, via X (previously Twitter) and over at the official Tales Channel Plus website, Tales of the Rays will be closing its service this July 23, 2024.

The game, which started February 28, 2017, was able to run a full seven years and five months, running a total of 2,703 days as per the announcement. Since the story of the game itself, and its world of Tir Na Nog, has ended, the game's service has also come to an end.

Please see below schedule of closure for different in-game services:

  • May 21, 2024, 11AM JST - End of in-game currency sales
  • July 23, 2024, 11AM JST - End of game service; all subdomains under Tales of the Rays will shut down; most videos on the official Tales of YouTube channel will be made private.
  • August 19, 2024, 12:00 noon JST - Official Tales of the Rays website shuts down

Offline Version

An offline version where you can play the main scenario of the game will be available as an update from the previous game. Technically, if you have an account with the game, you get to keep your stats, characters, equipment and logs will be available. The game's main scenario will be fully unlocked once you update to the offline version, but recollection and event scenarios won't be. In addition, a new scenario, "Tales of the Rays: A Story of Truth and Memories," will be available for the offline version.

The offline version will be 10GB in size. Transfer of date via your Bandai Namco ID will be available only until October 22, 12noon JST. Please note that the offline version does not ensure that it will be permanent availability and support.

Finale Campaign

A finale campaign will also be held for fans until July:

Gacha

  • All Gacha - Gacha which will include all magic mirrors and equipment released so far. 10 free summons per day. Does not include collaboration gacha except those with Tales of the Asteria.
  • Series Gacha - Gacha which will include all magic mirrors and equipment per series. Will include Tales of Asteria as its own series. Does not include collaboration gacha except those with Tales of the Asteria.

Memorial Events

  • Memorial Battle
  • Spirit Costume Event
  • Rays Festival

New Event and Scenario

  • A new event: "Let's Become a Great Pirate! Aifread Land Opens!" will be held. This was a promised event back during Rays Festival. The event includes a new scenario, but no new magic mirrors.

Alternate Color Costume Exchange

  • You can exchange alternate colors of costumes that have already been released.

Memorial Quest

  • A new quest that will look back on the history of Tales of the Rays. It summarizes the events of the game each year.

Reprint of Scenario Events

  • Events that could not be replayed using reprint tickets will now be available during the finale period. Reprint tickets will also be redistributed. Note that in the offline version, the main scenario of the main story (except Recollection) will be automatically unlocked, but event scenarios won't be. So this is the change to unlock them for the offline version. Collaboration events and some short scenarios are not eligible.

Finale Login Bonus

  • From Wednesday, May 22nd to Monday, July 22nd, a login bonus of 100 diamonds per day will be available.

Finale Skit

  • A finale skit featuring Icks and Mileena will be played when players login from Sunday, June 30th until the end of the service. This will be available once a day for 10 days. The skits are fully voiced.

In addition, there will be quests where players can get a large amount of training and strengthening items, a campaign where you can spend 0 AP on main quests, and an increased amount of Unison Attack badges earned without any play restrictions in Recollection mode. Additional items to the Kamenin Shop and sales will also be done.

Tales of the Rays Memorial Book

A memorial book published by Movic will be released this fall 2024. Pre-orders are currently open via the Movic shop until July 31. The book is in A4 size, in two volumes with 600 pages total encased in a memorial box. The book is priced at 13,200 Yen (tax included). The contents include magic mirror illustrations, anniversary illustrations, key visual illustrations, badge illustrations,  comics, Rays original character setting materials, and setting images for spirit costumes and some seasonal costumes, etc.

Digital Archive

Starting tomorrow, May 22nd, some Tales of the Rays contents will be released as a digital archive.

  • Memories of Tales of the Rays - An archive webiste that summarizes the games past events. Will be available on Tales Channel Plus.
  • BGM - some of the game's BGMs will be released on Tales of YouTube Channel. BGMs created after the release of the previously released original soundtrack will be available here. Will be released in July.
  • Main scenario - This will be a gameplay video of the main scenario on the Tales of YouTube Channel. To be released in July. This will not include event scenarios. This will be without voices and some animations.

Tales of BerseriaTales of the Rays is a Tales mobile game for the iOS and Android featuring characters designed by Hidenori Matsuraba and a new ADF-LMBS (Advanced Flick Linear Motion Battle System). The game tells the story of hero Ix Nieves and heroine Mileena Weiss in the world of Tir Na Nog. Characters from the previous Tales titles appear in this game. The game initially had an English version, but was short-lived and now currently runs exclusively in Japan.
