This has been probably the best re-imagining of a original Tales story ever =03! Whomever does the writing/series composition did an excellent job at making the horrible story elements of the game disappear, or rewritten to make sense.

Its still one episode left, but I have no doubts I'll be waiting for this amazing adaptation to return come winter =03.

    • Miry

"Rewritten to make sense"... Are you joking ? Tales of Zestiria the X is the worst Tales of adaptation we got so far. True, some things are better than in the game (Alisha's background, the relationship between Zaveid/Edna/Eizen, Sorey who wants to find things by himself rather than ALWAYS listenning to Leilah, etc...). But a lot of things are complete nonsense : Mikleo went who know where but, eh, who cares? That's not important, he is a big guy after all (there is just a giant dragon outside but he can take care of himself). There is two eps about Berseria. Great. Fans love it (me included). But what about people who knows nothing about the games ? What could they understand ? There is absolutely no link between Berseria and Zestiria in the anime. They don't even try to make one.
And last but not the least : we have to wait 10 eps to finally know more about "purification". 10 out of 12 eps for a crucial explanation. That's some improvement for sure.

      • frubam

Yep. That's how I feel as a player of the game. What do I care about people who don't know the franchise? I'm not writing a review here and it complements the game in the best way. Too bad for you that you don't feel the same way =01.

        • Miry

"This has been probably the best re-imagining of a original Tales story ever =03!" Sorry but I didn't read any "according to me" or "in my opinion" there. You write this as if it was a general feeling.
I played the game too. And the anime is really boring for me in more ways than one (oh look, Alisha and Sorey on a walk... Seriously, who cares? More importants things (that REALLY make sence) are left out).
But if you like this kind of waste, that's your choice after all.

          • frubam

It should be obvious that I'm giving my personal opinion(I JUST said so in the last reply); why the hell would I state something as a "feeling by the general viewer" unless I actually say as such(e.g. "I think everyone...", or "the general consensus is...").

And I do love it. It'll be even better without people like you complaining all the way(unless you are actually going to waste MORE of your time by watching the next and/or future episodes, which would be truly asinine if you don't like it, but that would be your choice after all). Good riddance =03.

          • Miry

And how was I supposed to know if you didn't use the right words ? You only specified it was your opinion afterwards. 'Am not in your head.

Oh, so you're one of these persons who think that "seeing bad things about an anime" means "we hate the anime and can't see its good points".
I point some good points about it though. But, to me, there is far more bad points than good ones. But you know, I was hoping for something better. Ufotable did a pretty good job with the OVA after all. But the TV serie is really mediocre. I only hope the second season will be better.

PS : "asinine"... I don't remember insulting you, so refrain from doing so please. If you've nothing to say, don't resort to feeble arguments like these.

          • frubam

"And how was I supposed to know if you didn't use the right words ?"

Exactly. YOU made the assumption, not me, so it shouldn't be any surprise that I jumped down your throat. This reeked of passive-aggressive behavior, and I wasn't going to tolerate it for one second. Next time, start your opinion as your own, instead of undermining my opinion to start your opinion, like I didn't know what the **** I was talking about.

          • Miry

I made no "assumption". You simply don't write YOUR opinion properly.

Objectively, Tales of Zestiria the X can not be a good rewriting because it can't be understand by people who don't already know the game's universe. Now, you like it : your choice, your taste. These two things are differents, do not get them confused.

And you're here again with the insults. I see you can't even write without using them. Other means exists though. It's call "points". You should try to use them sometime.

          • frubam

This guy... you assumed what I meant. I know what I meant; YOUR interpretation is wrong, but apparently are too high and mighty to admit it.

Know what, I'm wasting my time with you, and cluttering up this board with a pointless argument. Be gone. Hopefully I won't have to see your *** ever again.

          • Miry

@ frubam : How childish and back with the insults again. Have you no shame ? (Guess not, since you insist with it like a kid who wants to win an argument when he's all wrong and has nothing to say).
By the way, I didn't interpret anything, you're the one who didn't express it was your opinion on the matter. And deleting it to repost the exact same wrong comment doesn't change anything. You're just a child trying to sound right when you're all wrong.

      • And some things blatantly contradict game-lore, like when the sub-lords join and how, the Squire plot line is removed ENTIRELY, and how purification works on a human is totally different =-

        • Miry

I totally agree with you about Sergei. I was overjoyed to see this particular scene. 😀

    AUGH IT ENDED SO ABRUPTLY

    • Simon Low

The company who produced the animation, ufotable, is doing the re-imagining/writing.

  • Miry

I hope the second season will be better than the first. Tales of Zestiria the X is probably the worst Tales of adaptation I ever see. They tried to fill in the holes of the game's plot but most of the time, it didn't make sense at all. And what about dragons popping out of thin air ?

    • Simon Low

The simpler reason would be because it means that Age of Chaos have started. I think the rest will be explained with the "FINAL" earthern historia that Mayvin has. So you won't need to find iris gems one by one like in the game.

      • Miry

I don't understand what you mean at all by "it means that Age of Chaos have started". The Age of Chaos begins years before the beginning of Sorey's journey.
And what is "the rest" ? ^^" Your post is really foggy to me.

        • Simon Low

I meant the rest of the unanswered questions... Like where that dragon comes from. As for the beginning of age of chaos, you are right... I think we can only wait and see how the anime is going to play out.

    • itsameluigi1290

Other than Aizen, wasn't the only other dragon the one from underground? The one from the prologue, I think.

      • Miry

I was referring to the "dragon" (or the thing which looks like it) in the cathedral.

        • itsameluigi1290

The cathedral where Sorey pulled the blade? I think that was just a manifestation of the Malevolence. A dragon type enemy is more exciting than Slimes, I suppose.

          • Miry

I suppose too but it's a complete nonsense in this serie where dragons are really importants. It could have been anything else : werewolves (for example) are exciting too. And humans CAN become werewolves because of the malevolence. Plus, the dragon seems to come out of nowhere. It can't be. All Hyôma/Hellions are born from a life form (humans, monsters, animals, plants) whether they're alive or dead. It can't pop out of thin air like that.

          • And Sorey can suddenly just armatize right away? Like where was he getting used to and growing into his powers at this point? =-/

          • itsameluigi1290

I don't really mind it. The dragon thing was weird but when they change story bits from the game, in general I like it a bit more. Like removing Sorey and Mikleo's fight. I didn't like that scene in the game.

I feel like they needed to rush a bit due to the Berseria episodes. That takes away two whole episodes used for Zestiria's story.

          • Miry

I can't agree with you about the fight. When Mikleo "disappears", Sorey reacts as if he don't care at all about him ('Mikleo went who know where but, eh, who cares? That's not important, he is a big guy after all'). This is a complete nonsense when you know their relationship. However, the fight would have made this part credible.

Of course, it could have been a good idea to remove the fight IF they considered another way of doing things. A way where characters are not OoC for example (because Sorey was very out of character in this scene).

          • itsameluigi1290

I'm watching the dub episode right now, Sorey seemed pretty freaked out when he learned that Mikleo left.

          • Miry

He freaked out for what ? About a minute ? Maybe less. And after that : "Oh, it's a big guy after all, I can leave him behind, he can take care of himself". It's not like Lailah explained anything to him either. He just
give up on his best friend/brother in less than a minute. ^^" Does it
            really sound like Sorey ?
As a reminder, they were never separated
before that, and just a few hours before, a giant dragon destroyed some
parts of the town (and not any town : the capital dammit !). It's not
like the environment is safe. ^^"
Would you have left someone you deeply care about alone in a similar situation ? Honestly ? 😉

          • itsameluigi1290

I guess so. Considering they only have 22 minutes an episode, they've gotta push things along quickly.

Personally, no, I wouldn't have let him go. I would've gone after him. But regardless, I much prefer it to the argument they had in the game. That just comes from my personal dislike of friends fighting to resolve issues. I mean, at least one of them didn't punch the other in the face (or slapped, but generally they only do that if it's two girls for some reason). But still the whole scene seemed unnecessary. And, like, wouldn't that have meant he wanted Mikleo to stay back in Elysium in the game? Or he was just gonna tag along and not do anything? Been a while since I played that part of the game, I don't remember the dialogue there.

Also, sorry for getting into an argument, I didn't mean to go this far. D:

          • Miry

Ah, no problem. It's not an argument to me. We're just debating. 🙂 And your points are really clear. 😉

I know that the anime is way too short for the plot and that some things needed to disappear. I also acknowledge the need to change some parts of the plot that were very messy in the game. But, according to me, a lot of these changes were terrible. First of all : what about the ship teasing Sorey x Alisha ? Was it really necessary ? There is not enough time for the whole plot but they add scenes which were, at best, useless. Some other parts totally lost their meaning (Sorey and Mikleo who part ways), etc...
Of course, some changes were really good too (I loved the part with Eizen, Edna and Zaveid for example), but it's not enough for me.
However, I agree with you on one point : the fight was really odd in the game. It felt out of place for some reason. That's why I said in a previous comment that they could have removed it, if the script was better written on this part. 😉

          • itsameluigi1290

Right, I understand. Sometimes I'm so enamored with something that I actually forget other people dislike it/parts of it, hehe.

I like Edna more in the anime than the game (and she was one of my favorites in the game)... Not sure if it's just because she seems more polite in Japanese or if it's something else. But yeah it was great that they added more to the Aizen part!

          • Miry

I perfectly understand you! It's the same for me. 😀
Edna is one of my favorite characters too but I played the game in japanese, so I don't see any difference. ^^

          • itsameluigi1290

Hm... It may be my imagination. But she seems a bit more harsh or snarky in the dub. I think it's just her voice actress though, JP Edna has a softer voice.

          • The other thing is that the TIMING of those two episodes won't make sense to anyone coming to the series later; what are the odds some American learning of it 2 years from now will realize it was due to Japan's release date for Berseria?

          • itsameluigi1290

Maybe it wasn't a Hellion... It didn't leave any sort of human or animal behind. Just a form of Malevolence, since it was translucent. Seemed like pure energy.

Just conjecture, though. I don't know for sure.

          • Miry

Sorey uses his powers, so it was obviously a Hyôma/Hellion. And what you point out is true. I totally agree with you. That's why this "dragon" make no sense at all in the story.

  • Bonus: I was able to stream the OVA on Daisuki's app 😀 I thought I'd never get to see it without a Blu-ray player.
