Tales of Luminaria: Hugo Episode 2 Review - Battlefield of Farewells

“I am a shield… I exist to protect noble people like… you.”

Hugo’s second chapter is mainly him becoming a Lieutenant Alpha due to August seeing his efforts in battle, though, it could just be because of a bigger scheme the man has. His duties are to accompany and assist the three wolves. Hugo mainly assists Bastien throughout the episode and their interactions are hilarious because Hugo is normally a reserved guy but Bastien is even more reserved, so someone has to be the chatterbox between the two quiet people. I did like his little change from being unsure about his life in the military and being a Lieutenant Alpha but now he’s confident in his role thanks to his anger towards Lisette.

I always found Hugo to be a foil of Lucien in a way. Both are blond longsword users born in enemy territory but switched sides later on. In Lucien’s case, he was Empire-born and he’s now a part of the Federation. Hugo is the opposite with him being Federation-born but now on the Empire side. Both also hold high positions in whatever faction they’re in with Lucien being the head of Blaze and Hugo a newly appointed Lieutenant Alpha. Not only that, Hugo’s reasons for switching sides is heavily implied (and shown in the finale) while Lucien’s is never explicitly stated as you saw his fate in August Episode 2 but somehow is alive now.

Also, why is it that Hugo always thinks of Leo but never Celia? Not once has he ever thought about Celia during his on-screen time in the Empire. It’s like his brain is Leo-wired or something. A friend said that maybe it’s because he knows Celia can take care of herself, but still, if both are his childhood friends, maybe he should think about her once in a while?

Watching TimeFactor use Hugo in battle makes him look smooth as heck, but when I used Hugo, I was struggling before and after the update. I don’t think Hugo’s play style is for me. It’s all about precision and I’m not that sort of person.

If you’re wondering why Hugo is so angry at Lisette…well, it’s explained in the finale and thinking about it makes me sad… I know that Lisette is trying to make things right, but she’s not doing a great job. Oh, the fact that Hugo, Bastien and Lisette are the ones who appear in this episode is hilarious when you know who their voice actors are. Hugo is voiced by Eric Vale; Bastien is voiced by Christopher Sabat and Lisette is voiced by Colleen Clinkenbeard. You know what other characters these three played? Sanji, Zoro and Luffy from One Piece! Yes, the Monster Trio in Luminaria, ladies and gentlemen!

The finale is going to be long, so it might take a while for me to get the review up, but I’ll do my best to get it within the end of the month! What are your thoughts on this chapter?
