New Tales of Berseria Commercial Features Magilou

Meet Magilou, the bogus witch.

The latest Tales of Berseria character commercial features Magilou, the bogus witch.

You can watch the previously released commercials of Laphicet and Rokurou.

Translations to follow. I find Magilou's words hard to understand in general.

UPDATE: Translations now available courtesy of Lils and Mathis from the comments section. Thank you!

Magilou: You dare to run away from me.
Velvet: You're coming, too?
Magilou: Whether you use it or throw it away, things are easier.
Velvet: What are you trying to say?
Magilou: Velvet, what does hate feel like?
Magilou: Does it give you the reason to live?
Magilou: People can bear pain, but they can't oppose happiness.

M: You dare to run away from me
    V: You're coming too?
M: Whether you use it or throw it away, the spirits are the easiest
V: What are you trying to say?
M: Velvet, what does hate feel like?
M: Will you grant me the time to find the meaning of living?

One more, after the quick promo:
M: People can bear pain, but they can't oppose happiness

I have to disagree a bit...

"the spirits are the easiest" - where did the spirits come from? I hear "mono" there, she says that things are easier to use or throw away [than people], maybe she meant spirits but I think that's just over-interpretation

Also, I think that the line about the meaning of life refers to the previous one, to the one you translated as "Velvet, what does hate feel like?" Magilou asks Velvet about hate and then she asks if it gives her the reason to live or if she feels alive thanks to her hate.

        • Lils

I was hearing "mononokou ga raku ja zou." I know it wasn't "mononoke" but it could have just been her speech pattern that altered the word, which made sense to me. I assumed it was "spirits" because humans in the world of Berseria treat their Malak/spirits like tools. I could be very wrong on this translation.

I'm not entirely sure if any of these lines are connected. She could be referring to herself, or she could be referring to Velvet. Won't know until we play the game. Maybe it's related to the reason why she joins the party or why she's called the "bogus witch". Who knows.

          • Mathis

"mono no hou ga raku ja zou", "things are easier", I'm pretty sure that's what she says. Her speech pattern is not THAT weird 😉 Your translation was pretty good in my opinion, I just didn't like these two sentences. I'm 90% sure she was talking about hate giving Velvet the reason to live, not about Velvet giving Magilou the reason to live. Or even 95% sure. I would be VERY surprised if she were talking about herself actually, it just didn't sound that way

    • Lils

Just realized some of her latter lines are said in the Skit/Chat CM she does with Velvet. Her last line "Will you grant me the time to find the meaning of living" is incorrect. It's actually, "Can you help me feel alive?" She uses "jikkan" (to actually feel), but I first misheard it as "jikan" (time), initially.

Thanks so much for the translation! Mind if we place it on the actual blogpost? We'll credit.

      • Lils

By all means, go ahead. No credit necessary. It's hard even for me to work through the speech pattern she uses.

Best character finally got her own trailer

P.S unrelated but I thought I may share it, I just start TOV PS3 ver with the english patch (delayed it for year and wanted to play it so bad ever since I beated the 360 ver back in 2008)

And I couldn't just stop smile while replaying it again (especially after years of seeing Tales with different style like TOX and TOZ), it really remind me how it really was a Tale that worth to be told (see what I did there? :P)

The game may had the weakest plot compared to it's predecessors (TOS and the godly Abyss) But it done anything else mosly right (even in it's rushed 360 version),

The battle system get more deeper as you progress and not show you most of what it have to offer at the eariler stages of the game (I looking at you Zestiria),

The exploration is really worth the trip (Still looking at you TOZ~),

Easter eggs everywhere (with a certain comedy that was aimed mostly for long Tales fans) I honestly forgot about these things after TOZ and TOX2... easter eggs and repeated stuff from other titles may was there But it never was that direct unlike the older titles ,

World map that finally feel connected and fun to travel (and also got more deeper after you get the ship and plane),

Gimmicks that... well... still gimmicks but better than what we had in TOZ and ofc better to have at all (I really forgot about them after years of playing TOG, TOX, and TOX2, which completely lack them at all)

Dungeons and towns that really feel different from one another!
No it not just the music and background, each store have differnt things that you actually need like the cooking groceries, Real puzzles, and thanks to TOV's graphics and camera angles everthing look way better than TOX and TOZ PS3 graphics (the anti aliasing look way better, the colors just feel right, the desgin may look somewhere in between the Chibi and unChibi way but still look nice in the eye), and again the camera really make you see things differently, may I dare say it look better thanks to the fact it actually make sure you won't miss things that you can when you control it (and also highlight things),

Skits... well actually most TO games done that part right, But hey! at least they not anymore only on save points 😉

I can just keep go on and on about how that game feel better in any way compeard to post titles (again imo), but I think you got my point 😛

I can already tell she's going to be the Edna of berseria
