A new trademark for Tales of the Abyss has just surfaced, filed this month in Japan.
A new trademark for "Tales of the Abyss" has just been filed as of January 16, 2025 by Bandai Namco Entertainment, Inc. (Japan). The trademark filing was picked up by Chizai (Trademark) Watch, an online bot that publishes newly filed trademarks in Japan.
The trademark appears fairly new, and does not yet appear on the Japan Patent Office (JPO). The reason for this is that newly filed trademarks are initially indexed as images, as seen above, and not yet in text form. Hence, the Trademark Watch Bot utilizes an Optical Character Recognition program (OCR) to pick up the newly filed trademarks and have them ready in text form for their bot. Hence, if you do a search for the new Tales of the Abyss trademark on the JPO website, it won't appear as of yet. It may take up to a couple of weeks before it appears.
Luke fon Fabre's Tales of 30th Anniversary new artwork, recently unveiled.
The filing of the trademark itself appears strange, since it seems to have been filed for a multitude of things, and not just the usual video game software.
With the Tales of Series Remastered Project underway for the Tales of Series 30th Anniversary, one can only wonder if Tales of the Abyss is getting the same treatment that Tales of Graces f got - by getting a new remaster for modern consoles. Or, one can hope that we could possibly get something more than a remaster, but a full on remake?
However, this could just be a trademark filing, and nothing else.
What are your thoughts on this new trademark filing?
