AC Radio is a monthly to every two months podcast where we discuss various topics about Tales. The episode is always available a week early to Patrons, afterwhich it will be released publicly via our YouTube channel.
Again, the episode has an intro, outro and background theme going on which we applied in the last few episodes. WARNING: This episode may have spoilers for Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Eternia, Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Zestiria the X!
Tales of Eternia: The Animation is a 13-episode anime adaptation of Tales of Eternia animated by Xebec. Instead of deriving the story directly from the game, the anime follows an original story that takes place some time within the game’s timeline. Aside from featuring the game’s four main characters, the anime also introduces new characters unique only to the show. The anime unfortunately never received a localized release.
Tales of Phantasia: The Animation is four-part OVA (original video animation) adaptation of the events of Tales of Phantasia. Animated by Actas, Inc. and produced by Frontier Works and Geneon Entertainment, the OVA also received a localized release, complete with an English dub.
Tales of Symphonia: The Animation is an OVA (Original Video Animation) adaptation of the events of Tales of Symphonia animated by ufotable. The OVA was released as a three-part trilogy of “episodes” or chapters called “Sylvarant Episode,” “Tethe’alla Episode” and the “United World Episode” respectively. The trilogy spans in total 11 actual episodes, with Sylvarant and Tethe’alla containing four episodes each, and the United World having three episodes.
The Tales of the Abyss TV Anime series is a 26-episode anime adaptation of the events of Tales of the Abyss animated by Sunrise. The series first aired on October 2008. Being the longest available anime adaptation of a Tales game to date, the anime was able to portray the game’s story without omitting major events, as well as uses the game opening theme “Karma” by BUMP OF CHICKEN in its own opening. An English release with subtitles was initially released by Bandai Entertainment, then later picked up by Funimation after the company’s closure.
Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike is the series’ first animated feature film and serves as a prequel to Tales of Vesperia. Animated by Production I.G., the film covers the history of Yuri and Flynn when they were still both young knights together prior to the game’s main events. An English localization, complete with an English dub, was also released by Funimation.
The Tales of Zestiria the X anime (read as “the Cross”) is a TV series adaptation of Tales of Zestiria that was first announced during Tales of Festival 2015 as the “Tales of 20th Anniversary Animation”. The animation is done by ufotable. The first season aired during Summer 2016, with a second season confirmed for 2017. Its tagline is “The Journeys of the Shepherd go beyond Zestiria,” and shows hints of connections with Tales of Berseria.
Tales of Zestiria: Dawn of the Shepherd is a short animated adaptation by ufotable. It covers the first few events of Tales of Zestiria which first aired on Japanese TV prior to the game’s release. This was also included in the actual game release for Japan and as a component of the Collector’s Editions for North America and Europe, featuring English subs and a dub.
