Tales Of x Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time And Space Crossover Announced!

Tales Of Chronographia

The hit mobile RPG Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time And Space will permanently get Tales content when it updates to version 2.5.400! There's a lot more to this crossover than just Tales characters appearing, so check out what this crossover will entail here.
The most striking thing to come out of this crossover is a new opening movie for Another Eden. Watch it here:

Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time And Space is a free to play RPG released on mobile by Wright Flyer Studios and published by GREE Inc. It was created by Masato Kato, who's known for writing famous classic RPGs such as Chrono Trigger and Xenogears in collaboration with Yasunori Mitsuda who composed music for Chrono Trigger and Xenogears as well! Another Eden has been receiving a lot of acclaim for its approach to mobile RPGs. It's a fully single player standalone adventure that feels more like a traditional console RPG than the usual Gacha RPG format you find on mobile devices, which is something it has in common with Tales of The Rays' stated goal of being a console quality title on mobile. The story involves time travel, and visiting the same places at different points in time, which makes the appearance of Tales of Phantasia characters in the game all the more fitting!

The opening animation was done by Production I.G which Tales fans should recognize as the studio behind many Tales openings such as Tales of The Abyss, Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Hearts, to name a few. The theme song is "Machigainai Sekai" and was written and performed by DEEN, which previously did the opening music for Tales of Destiny and Tales of Hearts and, most recently, Tales of The Rays! The song is the one performed in the trailer above, and you can see some of the animation as well. They'll both also be available in-game when the update comes!

The main draw of this crossover is the addition of 4 new party members. They are Cress Albane from Tales of Phantasia, Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia, Milla Maxwell from Tales of Xillia and Velvet Crowe from Tales of Berseria. On top of that, Mint, Arche, Repede, Rowen and Magilou will also make an appearance in cutscenes and dialogue, with all of their original voice actors returning too! The best part is that this isn't some limited time gacha only event. The Tales characters will be part of Another Eden permanently and can be recruited by clearing the Crossover Symphony "Tails of Time And The Brave Four: Tales of Chronographia". You must complete chapter 13 of the main story to unlock said Symphony as well as prologues for each of the four playable Tales characters. Here's an image of where unlocked Symphonies can be found.

Classic Tales composers Motoi Sakuraba (Who's done almost every Tales title since Phantasia) and Shinji Tamura (who's worked on Tales titles such as Phantasia, Symphonia and Abyss) will also be contributing music to this event. Motoi Sakuraba will create a new track called "Battles in Another World" and make new arrangements of "Take up The Cross" from Tales of Phantasia as well as 決死の剣 (which you may know by the translated name "Daring Sword") from Tales of Xillia. Shinji Tamura will contribute a new version of Fighting of The Spirit as well as Arche (also known as Arche's theme)!

This crossover is also going as far as to affect the game mechanics of Another Eden itself. The first of the new mechanics is Skits! The skit system is one of the most important aspects of the Tales series, and now the mechanic itself is going to appear alongside the characters in this crossover. After clearing the requires Symphony and recruiting the Tales characters, you can find various skits in various places by playing through the story or fulfilling certain conditions that will cause the skit to appear, just like in Tales. You'll know you found a skit because a Skit icon will appear on the bottom right of the screen, which you can tap to start the Skit. The skits will be fully voiced, albeit with Japanese voices only, and will be presented in the classic square portrait box style. The Tales characters' skit portraits will be redrawn to match Another Eden's art style, and characters original to Another Eden like Aldo, Amy and Cyrus will be getting their own skit style portraits to join in on the skit conversations themselves! Also, even if you miss a skit, all skits can be viewed in a special location accessible after completing the Symphony.

The second new mechanic is Cooking, which is a staple mechanic of the Tales series. Just like in Tales you'll be able to find Recipes from characters or other sources of inspiration and cook them for various effects like healing or stat boosts. Cooking the same dish multiple times will increase mastery of the dish, also similar to Tales! We're also teased that an "Ultimate Dish" can be created once mastery is maxed out. Cooking is done at places marked by a cooking icon and successful cooking heals HP and MP, increases mastery of the dish and gives you the dish to take with you on your journey.

The final new mechanic is Mystic Artes! This one only affects the Tales characters and are learned on their 5-star ability boards. Once unlocked, if their HP is 25% or less and their Over Limit isn't used up, their skills turn into Mystic Artes, complete with Mystic Arte cut-ins! We don't know exactly which Mystic Arte each character will get, but we can see a glimpse of Cress' in the trailer. They can only be done once per battle, however. In order to upgrade the Tales characters to 5-star rarity and unlock the ability boards you need for Mystic Artes, you must complete the "Trial of Spirits" which is unlocked after completing "Tails of Time And The Brave Four: Tales of Chronographia".

All in all Another Eden provides a very comprehensive and affectionate crossover with Tales. You can tell the creators had a lot of love and passion for the Tales series with the amount of work they put in to make the event feel like Tales! As was said before, the crossover event will be released with Version 2.5.400, which will have a simultaneous global release on December 17 (UTC). It will not be time or gacha limited and is permanently added content to the game. If you're a fan of not only Tales but also classic RPGs such as Chrono Trigger or even Tales of Phantasia, why don't you check Another Eden out? When he’s not playing Tales, Khayyaam tries his best to get as many people he knows as possible into the series. He’s also a fan of all sorts of games in general, especially Fighting Games, Action Games and RPGs, and he loves to write and talk about them too, especially from a gameplay and game design perspective. One day he’ll make his own game, or be a voice actor in a game, but for now he’s happy just playing games and talking about them.
